8/15/25 Daily Devotional: Act Like Men

1 Corinthians 16:13-14 NASB - Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.

One of my favorite Bible phrases is in this verse ... ACT LIKE MEN.

  • This is SORELY needed in our culture today and I believe the crux of many (if not all) of the issues of our time. We need men to be men!!

How do we do this?!

BE WATCHFUL.

  • Just pay attention! Observe those around you, care about what you see. Too easily we can DETACH from our lives into a game or job or hobby. How many guys spend more time in a deer stand or on a tee box than with their kids?

STAND FIRM IN THE FAITH.

  • Too many guys depend on their gals to be the faith initiators & leaders of their families.

  • (More on this later)

ACT LIKE MEN

  • This is not Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor, Joe Rogan, Homer Simpson or Lebron James’ definition of manhood ... IT IS GOD’S!!!

  • What is His definition? He describes it in the next verse ... “Let all that you do be done in love.” God’s version of MANHOOD is defined by LOVE. Culture clash much?!?

So many of our societal struggles and issues can be traced back to men not acting like GODLY men.

  • Shirking responsibility, avoiding commitment, not providing, threatening others, intimidating, lacking involvement in our families, relationally retarded .... NOTHING like God’s definition of a Man!

Acting like a man starts at home as the SPIRITUAL LEADER of our households.

We must STAND FIRM in our own Faith.

  • Is our Faith IN HIM? Is our reliance ON HIM? … or ourselves?

Our wives should follow us to STAND FIRM in their own Faith.

  • A man’s leadership can inspire his wife to do this but she must personally pursue God herself. We can (and SHOULD!) encourage, cultivate & model this for her.

Teach our children to STAND FIRM in their Faith.

  • If 1&2 are operational, this becomes MUCH easier ... but it is never NATURAL, both parents must be INTENTIONAL about encouraging, cultivating and modeling specifically for each child.

  • It is important to call out that this must be a discovery of THEIR OWN PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with Christ. It can’t be our Faith “passed on” to them but we can definitely give them opportunities to MEET HIM!!

Our Creator God has given men significant responsibility in His Family and in His Church … but He’s also given those same men access to His POWER and His LOVE to get it done!

Men … act like it!
