8/13/25 Daily Devotional: Your Very Life

Deuteronomy 32:44-47 ESV - Moses came and recited all the words of this song in the hearing of the people, he and Joshua the son of Nun. And when Moses had finished speaking all these words to all Israel, he said to them, “Take to heart all the words by which I am warning you today, that you may command them to your children, that they may be careful to do all the words of this law. For it is no empty word for you, but your very life, and by this word you shall live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess.”

How do you interact with the Word of God?

• Moses reminded the Israelites as they were about to enter God’s Promised Land that God’s Word was more than empty words to them … IT WAS THEIR LIFE.

• What about you? … is God’s Word rarely more than words on the page of a devotion book, or in a social media meme, or on that knick-knack from Hobby Lobby? … or is the Word of God your lifeline, foundation, and heartbeat of your very life?

What is the Word of God? … And how can I practically let it be more than empty words? … How can God’s Word BE MY LIFE?

God’s Word is THE BIBLE.

• Read your Bible … then read it more. MAKE TIME to read your Bible more and more. Surround your thoughts with His Word. Have a physical Bible and read it. Have Scripture e-mailed to you. Follow Scripture pages on social media. DO ALL OF IT!

• Study your Bible … actually CONSIDER what you read. Take notes. Read commentaries. Listen to sermons & podcasts. Go to Bible Studies. Mark up & highlight your Bible. Let the Word of God CONSUME YOU!

• Know your Bible … be in it enough that it is IN YOU. Memorize verses. Understand the flow from book to book. Connect concepts. KNOW HIM.

• Do your Bible … as you study & consume His Word TRUST & OBEY Him. Be changed by what you read. Draw near to God. KNOW HIM. Be changed & TRANSFORMED by the knowledge & understanding of the LIVING GOD!

God’s Word is in you through HIS SPIRIT.

• The Holy Spirit of God is in us as Christ Followers. He speaks directly to our hearts, souls and minds … LISTEN TO HIM!

• He prods & nudges & calls & directs us as we go through moment by moment of our lives … and we are so very good at ignoring Him!

• When OUR VERY LIFE is in His Word, we seek out these proddings and OBEY them because we have experienced HIS GOODNESS in us through His Word.

• His Word in you is inviting you to step out in FAITH and step into His Will WITH HIM as you live your life … are you FOLLOWING HIM?

• Do you notice His Word within you? Do you care that He is speaking to you? Is YOUR VERY LIFE lived in dependence on His Word directing & guiding you?

God has an Abundant Life for you to live … and you will live long in that life WITH HIM when you let HIS WORD be your source of life.
