Hebrews 11:1-6 ESV - Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
FAITH is confident assurance in God, a conviction that He is Truth.
Hebrews 11 shows us that true FAITH IN GOD starts with acknowledging the reality of God & His role as Creator of all. God creating everything that we know & see is a vital starting point for Faith … He is God, we are not!
Hebrews 11 shows us that true FAITH IN GOD will produce ACTION in our lives … specifically, Faith produces action that is in OBEDIENCE to and DEPENDENCE on God.
Faith is BELIEF IN ACTION.
Abel sacrificed to God obediently.
Enoch pleased God with all of his life.
Noah trusted God & dedicated his life to constructing the ark in the face of total humiliation.
Abraham followed God by leaving the comfort of his home and depending on God for His Provision.
Sarah believed God to be Faithful and watched Him reframe possible for her.
Abraham obediently offered up God’s Promise back to Him … knowing & trusting God to remain faithful beyond his own understanding.
Isaac, Jacob & Joseph trusted God with their future generations, intentionally Blessing them and being confident that God would remain with them.
Moses’ parents valued his life over their own, risking their own lives to preserve his life.
Moses identified himself with God over his society and status. He then obeyed God by stepping past his own levels of comfort & calling into God’s Will.
Rahab was drawn to God by seeing how He worked in the world around her … she trusted Him before even meeting Him and gave her life to Him.
These examples of FAITH show us how to live out our own Faith … ACTIVELY!
FAITH = Know God -> Love God -> Trust God -> Obey God
When we are filled with the knowledge of God, we will LOVE Him … God is Love!
When we LOVE God, we will TRUST Him … God is Faithful!
When we TRUST God, we will OBEY Him … Jesus tells us that we Love Him when we OBEY Him!
True Faith connects KNOWING to OBEYING … we are so confidently assured of God that we FOLLOW HIM wherever He leads.
