7/4/25 Daily Devotion: Who's Got Next?

Judges 2:10 - “And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the LORD or the work that he had done for Israel.”

Who is coming up behind you? Who is watching you FOLLOW GOD in a way that is drawing them into deeper relationship WITH HIM themselves?

In the book of Exodus, we see the life of Moses as he introduces God’s People to their God … freeing them from slavery in Egypt and leading them to God’s Promised Land.

• In the background of Exodus we always find Joshua by Moses’ side … learning, training, experiencing God through Moses’ example.

• The result? When Moses passes away, Joshua is there to faithfully lead God’s People INTO God’s Promised Land!

I love the book of Joshua! Over and over and over again we see God give Joshua direction and then … wait for it … JOSHUA WOULD DO WHAT GOD SAID. 🤯

• Joshua OBEYED God because Joshua TRUSTED God because Joshua had been shown how to KNOW God by watching Moses.

• The FAITHFUL OBEDIENCE of Joshua throughout the book is so very encouraging to me! We see God’s FAITHFULNESS to bring us His Victory when we simply follow Him in obedience.

BUT … the book of Joshua ends, Joshua dies and we find one of the most sad verses in all the Bible in Judges 2:10 … the generation that followed Joshua DID NOT KNOW THE LORD.

• Joshua did not have a Joshua! … His faithful obedience was not carried on to the next generation!

You need a Moses in your life … someone ahead of you in life that you can learn from & witness what following God looks like.

You also need a Joshua in your life!! … someone watching & learning from you!

• It is easier for us to seek out teachers than to seek out students.

• Look for opportunities to SHARE WITH OTHERS what God is doing in your life … God has Joshuas out there … bring them with you!
