Psalm 130:1-8 - “1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD! 2 O Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my pleas for mercy! 3 If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? 4 But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared. 5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; 6 my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning. 7 O Israel, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption. 8 And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.”
Have you ever just flat out screwed up? You dropped the ball. You got wrapped up in your self, in your feelings, in your desires … and you hurt someone else or you ignored God or you straight up disobeyed Him … you sinned. Anybody been there? 🙋🏻♂️
What do you do when you know you’ve sinned?
Sin separates us from God. Before Salvation … this separation will result in eternal death. After Salvation … this separation results in a broken communion with our Father God.
We have two options when we sin …
HIDE from God
Adam and Eve modeled this strategy IMMEDIATELY after mankind’s first sin! … guilt & shame will drive us to hide from God if we allow their fractured version of God’s Truth to overcome our trusted relationship with our Father God.
David refused to acknowledge his sin with Bathsheba … hiding his heart from God by distracting himself with the intricacies and complexities of real life and not dealing with or even accepting the guilt & shame of his transgressions.
But what happened in both of those stories?!?! … God PURSUED them to restore them to Himself. God found Adam & Eve … God sent the prophet Nathan to confront David … and that same God calls us back to Himself when we hide from Him!
CRY OUT to God
Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord! … I love the humanity of the Psalms!!
Adam & Eve could have cried out to their Father God when they were naked & afraid in shame! … David could have cried out to his Father God directly as his web of sin grew in complexity!
You and I can cry out directly to our Father God when we recognize & acknowledge sin & rebellion in our lives!
God can handle our brokenness. God can manage our mistakes. God can HEAL OUR HEARTS and return us to relationship WITH HIM.
What do we find when we cry out to God from the depths of our sin?
We find God’s FORGIVENESS.
We find God’s HOPE.
We find God’s LOVE.
We find God’s REDEMPTION.
When we cry out to God from the depths of our sin … WE. FIND. GOD.
You sin.
When you do, don’t hide.
If you do, He’ll find you.
Cry out to Him. Return to Him. … Be WITH HIM.
