7/24/25 Daily Devotion: ... Therefore ...

Philippians 2:5-13 - “5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”

You should be drawn to THEREFORE’s in the Bible … Therefore’s indicate a point in Scripture where God is connecting two TRUTHS.

• This is True … THEREFORE … this is True because of that previous Truth.

• Often, that second Truth will have an element of ACTION for us to live out … so THEREFORE’s in the Bible are a great place for us to gain insight as to WHY God is calling us to believe & live the way He is!

Let’s look at a couple of these THEREFORE’s here in Philippians 2 …

Jesus, as God, willingly stepped into mankind WITH US. He humbled Himself and lived His Life in PERFECT OBEDIENCE to God … even to the point of death on a cross FOR US.

THEREFORE

God highly exalted Jesus and bestowed on Him the Name above all names … that everyone & everything would confess that JESUS IS LORD to God’s Glory.

• Jesus lived a Life as a man in complete OBEDIENCE to God.

• He became like us (Emmanuel!) and modeled for us a Life completely devoted to God’s Will.

• This Life is one of Sacrifice, Humility & Obedience … resulting in God’s Exaltation for God’s Glory!

THEREFORE

We, as Christians, should intentionally work to model our life after Jesus … making a sincere & concerted effort to live a life of Sacrifice, Humility & Obedience POWERED BY GOD working in us!

• That last note is of paramount importance! … the Christian Life is God working IN YOU.

• We are called to WORK OUT what God has WORKED IN.

• God gives us the DESIRE to pursue His Will … and then gives us the POWER to do His Will.

• We are called to work WITH HIM in living out the TRANSFORMATION that He has produced in us by TRUSTING & OBEYING His Word in our lives.

• When we live our life in Sacrifice, Humility & Obedience … we will ultimately see the same result … God’s Exaltation for God’s Glory!

Aren’t THEREFORE’s helpful!?!?!? … when we follow these THEREFORE’s in Philippians 2 we are able to see that our Obedience is not just a mandate from a far off deity but a RESPONSE to a Loving & Intimate Father God’s Transforming Power WITHIN US.

THEREFORE … Sacrifice your self. Humble your self. Faithfully Obey Him today.
