7/16/25 Daily Devotion: Is The Christian Life Fun?

Psalms 16 - “1 Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge. 2 I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” 3 As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight. 4 The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply; their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out or take their names on my lips. 5 The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. 6 The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. 7 I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. 8 I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. 10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. 11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

What do you think of when you think of the Christian Life?

For many people outside of the Christian Faith (and sadly, if we are honest, for many people sitting in pews & sanctuaries & auditoriums in Christian churches across the country on Sunday mornings) the idea of the Christian Life is one of rules, restrictions, somber seriousness, judgement & ritual. … OH WHAT A LIE!!!

A life DEVOTED to God, FOLLOWING Jesus in the POWER of the Spirit is full of LIFE, JOY & PLEASURE!

ABUNDANT LIFE

• Jesus said that He came that we might have LIFE and have it ABUNDANTLY! (John 10:10) … Life to the max, life to the fullness, overflowing with LIFE … Life with Jesus is the BEST WAY to have Life.

• Paul tells us that we were given a unique life of PURPOSE and that we are able to participate WITH GOD in the execution of His Will here on Earth … God designed specific good works to be done THROUGH YOU! (Ephesians 2:10)

FULLNESS OF JOY

• We love to pursue happiness when TRUE JOY is being offered!

• Our pursuit of happiness causes us to become obsessed with our circumstance … constantly trying to control it in order to maintain our fleeting encounters with happiness … health, comfort, success, approval & ease become our idols.

• We find PURE JOY in God. God never changes, so His Joy is unaffected by circumstance … in fact, Joy knows that struggle, challenge & pain are not threats but opportunities to EXPERIENCE GOD deeper & more completely.

PLEASURES FOREVERMORE

• A life FOLLOWING HIM is one heckuva good time!!!!

• God knows the deepest, most fulfilling DESIRES of our innermost heart … and He PROMISES to give them to us!

• His ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9) and He is able to do far greater than we can ask, think or imagine! (Ephesians 3:20-21)

Don’t let man-made religious restriction distract you from the RELATIONSHIP that God is offering to you .. God is calling you to Himself! In Him you will find Life, Joy & Pleasure to the fullest!
