7/14/25 Daily Devotion: He Gets Us ... Victory!

Hebrews 4:14-16 - “14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

There is nothing that we can go through or be tempted with that Jesus has not only seen ... BUT CONQUERED!

  • I’m reminded of the “Walking On Water” story from the Gospels. The Disciples are struggling with, being beaten down & threatened by the storm ... and Jesus is out for a stroll ON TOP OF THEIR CHALLENGE!

  • He is greater than our temptations & struggles! … What are you struggling with? Is there a temptation you are regularly weak to? Is your environment & circumstances beating you down? … HE IS GREATER than your temptations & struggles … and HE IS WITH YOU!

  • Often … Jesus’ VICTORY for you does not involve removal from your challenge but VICTORY over your challenge!

Sometimes, I think we can oversimplify the concept of Jesus not having sinned. We can think “Well, He was God so He just wasn’t able to sin. Easy Peasy.” Hebrews 2:18 paints a different picture … “For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

  • Jesus didn’t just have temptation bounce off of Him like bullets off Superman ... HE SUFFERED THROUGH the temptation, this paints a picture of REAL STRUGGLE in these moments ... BUT STILL CONQUERING EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!

  • That is a more “impressive” feat to accomplish!

How did Jesus fight temptation? … with the WORD OF GOD.

  • Jesus had God’s Word in Scripture memorized, planted deep in his heart & mind, to reference whenever He was challenged. Read your Bible. KNOW your Bible!

  • Jesus was in CONSTANT COMMUNION with His Father God … trusting in & depending on God’s Word in Prayer delivered to Him throughout His daily comings & goings. LISTEN to God in prayer. TRUST & OBEY what He says!

Jesus KNOWS & understands you and your circumstance. Do you understand & KNOW Him? … His Victory for you is found IN HIM.
