7/10/25 Daily Devotion: But God

Hosea 1:2 - “When the LORD first spoke through Hosea, the LORD said to Hosea, “Go, take to yourself a wife of whoredom and have children of whoredom, for the land commits great whoredom by forsaking the LORD.””

There are many things that you & I don’t understand … I believe that most of our struggles in this life can be tied back to an incomplete understanding of OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.

• We tend to vastly under appreciate WHO GOD IS … we tend to entirely & completely over estimate WHO WE ARE … creating a warped sense of how those two entities were created to interact.

The book of Hosea gives a pretty graphic (but accurate!) picture of God’s UNENDING LOVE for us … even as we are actively & defiantly choosing anything and everything instead of Him.

• Whenever we place anything else above God in our hearts (create idols), we are defiling our RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD as a cheating spouse defiles the marriage bed.

• We have cheated on God with our careers, with our money, with our stuff, with our self righteousness, with our pleasure, with our fear, with our anger, with our friends, with our families, with our country, with our pride, with our sin …

BUT GOD, being rich in mercy, because of the GREAT LOVE with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us ALIVE TOGETHER WITH CHRIST (Ephesians 2:4-5)

We do not highlight the depths of our sin & the pain that it causes our God as a guilt trip … we do so in order to MAGNIFY THE LOVE OF GOD for you and for me!

• No matter what you’ve done (or how many times you’ve done it!) God is still pursuing you with HIS LOVE to redeem you to Him!

Let your sin HUMBLE you but then let God's Love TRANSFORM you!

Jesus did not come to condemn you but He seeks you out in your rebellion to SAVE you from death and raise you to LIFE IN HIM.
