6/3/2025 Daily Devotion: A Friend Of Jesus

John 15:14-15 - “14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”

Jesus calls us FRIEND … what does this mean?

Jesus is your FRIEND:

Jesus DIED for you.

• Jesus stepped into humanity. Jesus stepped into time. Jesus stepped into our broken world … to TAKE OUR DEATH.

• Jesus didn’t just die a death … He died your death and He died my death, earned by & meant for us … and then He CONQUERED ALL OF DEATH for us that we might LIVE in Him!

• Jesus defeated death SO THAT you & I could KNOW GOD & KNOW HIM … that we could be FRIENDS OF GOD.

Jesus CHOSE you.

• Jesus KNOWS you intimately and Jesus has called you personally BY NAME.

• He knows WHO YOU ARE … and who He has designed you to be!

• He knows HOW YOU’RE MADE … and why He designed you that way!

• He knows WHAT YOU’VE DONE … and what He has planned for you to do!

• Jesus KNOWS you … and you are the only you that He has CHOSEN.

Jesus APPOINTED you.

• Jesus chose you FOR A PURPOSE … and He has promised to strengthen you to go do that PURPOSE!

• He promises that this Purpose will BEAR FRUIT when we go live it out … we will accomplish HIS WILL when we FOLLOW HIM to live His Life in His Strength & Power.

What does it mean to be a Friend of Jesus?

Jesus calls us to be His Friends:

Friends of Jesus ABIDE in Him.

• Friends of Jesus find our strength, comfort, joy, identity, peace, purpose, fulfillment, hope, love & life IN JESUS. He is EVERYTHING.

Friends of Jesus OBEY Him.

• “You are my friends if you do what I command you.” - Jesus

• The Bible is the Word of God … know it & OBEY it. Jesus memorized, recited & lived by Scripture … so should you!

• Jesus is the Word … know Him & OBEY Him. Jesus speaks to you intimately & personally throughout the day … pay attention! Notice His Voice. Consider His Voice. OBEY His Voice!

Friends of Jesus LOVE others.

• What His Voice calls you to do will ALWAYS involve loving & serving other people.

Be Friends with Jesus.

Abide.

Obey.

Love.
