Exodus 3:9-14 - “9 And now, behold, the cry of the people of Israel has come to me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. 10 Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” 11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” 12 He said, “But I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.” 13 Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
God is slightly more patient than I am ... 😬 if my first efforts at communicating are not received as I intended, I usually tap out at that point!
I love this section of Moses’ story because:
It shows God’s desire to use us in His Will.
God found Moses … He has found you!
God got Moses’ attention … does He have yours?
God revealed HIMSELF to Moses … do you KNOW Him?
God called Moses to JOIN HIM … are you FOLLOWING Him?
It shows God’s true nature: I AM
God Is. (Emphasis on the period!)
God says “I AM”
The Bible & Christian witnesses all throughout history have said “HE IS”
How do you respond? … Will you turn to God and say “YOU ARE”
It shows God’s omnipotence over our lives ... He knew the challenges that Moses would face (3:19) but had already conquered them!!
God PROMISES that He will work ALL THINGS together for OUR GOOD when we TRUST & OBEY Him … are you CONFIDENT in His Promise?
I am fascinated by God’s willingness to work His Will within our parameters at times. Two instances come to mind:
God’s provision of Aaron for Moses: Clearly not His ideal setup, but He allowed it ... interesting to see the issues that may have been avoided!
God’s provision of a king for Israel: Clearly not His ideal setup, but He allowed it ... interesting to see the issues that may have been avoided!
What JOY, what COMFORT, what PEACE we often forfeit when we don’t fully TRUST & OBEY His Will for our lives with FAITH in Him!
What is great for us is that we have these stories to shape our understanding of God and how He works ... but that understanding drives SO MUCH DEEPER when we experience it on the pages of our real lives!
Do you have stories of God’s Provision in your own life?
Do you have testimonies of His Faithfulness when you stepped out in complete Faith in Him?
Are you experiencing the SAME GOD that you read about in Scripture in your day to day life?
Are you TELLING YOUR STORIES to others?!
