6/16/2025 Daily Devotion: Your Heart Is Not Worth Following

Matthew 15:18-20 - “18 But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. 20 These are what defile a person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.”

DO. NOT. … under any circumstances … never ever … follow your heart.

Your heart takes the carnal, sin soaked, self obsessed desires of your flesh and turns them into feelings.

• Your feelings are always focused on & obsessed with YOUR SELF.

• Don’t believe me? … go rewatch Inside Out. Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger & Disgust are only able to ever be concerned with Riley and how Riley herself is feeling.

A better source is Jesus! 😆 Jesus gives us a list of what the heart produces:

• Evil Thoughts

• Hate

• Covetousness

• Jealousy

• Sexual Immorality

• Theft

• Deception

• Slander

Your self wants to be better than others. Your self wants to please your self. Your self wants what your self wants. … And your self communicates with you through your feelings!

• Hebrews tells us that an evil, unbelieving heart will lead us away from our LIVING GOD.

So what do we do? Like it or not, we are all pretty attached to our selves!

• This is why Jesus tells us that we must INTENTIONALLY take up our cross and actively CHOOSE to give up our self … to SACRIFICE OUR SELF.

• Paul tells us to present our self TO GOD as a living sacrifice … and allow Him to TRANSFORM us!

• Hebrews tells us to put aside the sin that clings so close to us (in our hearts) and FAITHFULLY FOLLOW JESUS!

1. KNOW that your heart is selfish.

2. GIVE your selfish heart to God.

3. TRUST & OBEY His direction & calling for your life.

DO. … in every circumstance … always, forever … FOLLOW JESUS.
