John 5:6-9 - “When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” 7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.” 8 Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” 9 And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. Now that day was the Sabbath.”
The Question: Do you want to be healed?
This man had been lying by this pool for THIRTY EIGHT years … not getting healed.
He had reasonable excuses and pretty valid reasons for why he was just lying there, not healed.
But now JESUS was there … and I absolutely love Jesus’ question to this man … “Do you want to be healed?”
On the surface, this seems like a pretty silly question, right? … Of course he wants to be healed! That’s why he’s here! … right?
The Answer: I’m a victim of my circumstance.
We see by this man’s answer that he had actually become more focused on blaming his circumstances & the people around him than actually being healed.
Jesus wants to talk about healing and this man can only discuss healing from the vantage point of why he can’t be healed.
Understandable from man’s point of view … but JESUS. CHANGES. EVERYTHING.
The Solution: GO BE HEALED
Jesus doesn’t require the man to answer the question correctly … He provides the true solution … Get up. Go!
Jesus immediately healed the man … but the man still had to get up and actually walk!
He allowed the FREEDOM that Jesus provided to become his identity … overcoming the brokenness, overcoming the blame … TRANSFORMING him from a victim to a victor!
You & I are saddled with invalid, sin-soaked hearts, limited & burdened by the sinful desires of our flesh … when JESUS shows up!
If you are a Christian … are you LIVING HEALED? Too many of us still identify our selves with our struggles … we have reasons why we are the way we are!
I’m anxious … but I have reasons. I’m angry … but I have reasons. I work too much … but I have reasons. I don’t work enough … but I have reasons. I give into my desires … but I have reasons. I’m a loner … but I have reasons. I’m depressed … but I have reasons. I’m in turmoil … but I have reasons. I’m consumed by doubt … but I have reasons.
We are all broken when we meet Jesus … but He calls us to BE HEALED in Him!
He calls us to be TRANSFORMED in Him!
Let Him overcome the weakness in you. Let Him overcome the selfishness in you. Let Him overcome the victim in you. … BE VICTORIOUS IN CHRIST!
Do. Not. Stay. Broken.
Don’t sit in your broken Hallelujah … offer it up and then go BE HEALED.
