5/21/2025 Daily Devotion: That Doesn't Make Sense ... I'm In!

Genesis 22:8 - “Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.”

Are you close enough to God that you TRUST HIM when He doesn’t make sense?

God PROMISED Abraham that His offspring would be innumerable, more than the stars in the sky … Abraham would be the father of a great Nation!

• BUT ….. Abraham was old, had no kids & his also old wife was barren … he did not have ONE descendant, let alone more than the stars in the sky!

• That doesn’t make sense.

• Abraham & his wife Sarah try to make God make sense on their own … they use their maidservant, young & fertile, for Abraham to produce a descendant with … makes a lot more sense to them!

• Not God’s Promise! In GOD’s TIME He produces His Promised son to Abraham … HE IS FAITHFUL.

NOW … God has asked Abraham to sacrifice THAT SON … what?!?!?

• That doesn’t not make sense.

• God PROMISED to make a great nation from this son … how can He do that if he’s dead?

• Abraham had now EXPERIENCED GOD enough to TRUST HIM even when he did not have any answers.

• Abraham obeyed by walking up that mountain with his son for a sacrifice AND Abraham fully believed that he would return home with that same son …

• How did he confidently know that? BECAUSE GOD HAD PROMISED HIM. Abraham’s brain could not comprehend HOW God would do it but Abraham’s heart FULLY TRUSTED & BELIEVED His God.

Abraham was close enough to God & Abraham had experienced God’s Faithfulness enough in his life that He was able to OBEY God’s Call when it made no sense at all.

• How about you? Do you only follow God when you can make sense of His call first?

God has called you to a life of FAITH IN HIM that will not make sense to your own understanding … DO YOU TRUST HIM?

• What has He PROMISED you?

• What is He CALLING you to do?

Trust Him. Obey Him. Have FAITH in Him.
