Colossians 3:23-24 - “23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
Work Heartily … what does that mean? We are supposed to be doing EVERYTHING this way … seems like we should understand what it means!
The Greek words here mean to “do your work from your soul” or “let your work originate from your soul”
This word for “soul” is sometimes translated as “life” like in Matthew 10:39 when Jesus talks about losing our LIFE/SOUL so that we may find it.
This life/soul is WHO WE ARE … and Jesus tells us to give all of WHO WE ARE to Him so that He can TRANSFORM us into who He’s called us to be!
We are called to live out each of our roles/relationships in life from the depths of WHO WE ARE … and we are called to have the depths of WHO WE ARE transformed by Christ!
We will often neuter the POWER of this verse by limiting our takeaway to “Try hard in all that you do, just like Jesus was your boss!” … this verse is not about giving it your “best shot” … it is about letting the Spirit of God completely TRANSFORM who you are and then letting that Spirit led & Spirit empowered you ignite ALL THAT YOU DO in pursuit of God’s Will and for His Glory.
We aren’t called to TRY HARD. We are called to BE TRANSFORMED. Let that change whatever it is you do today!
