4/30/2025 Daily Devotion: God's Pattern

Colossians 1:9-10 - “9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;”

How does God work in our lives? Paul gives us a pattern here in Colossians 1 that God uses to ENGAGE & GROW us in Him … let’s take a look!

When we hear & understand the Grace of God in TRUTH and put our FAITH in Jesus as our Savior and LORD … God draws us into a pretty consistent three-step cycle of ACTIVE SANCTIFICATION that will draw us into deeper & deeper relationship WITH HIM!

Step One: God FILLS us with the knowledge of His Will

• When we choose to follow Him with our lives in Faith, God will give us the spiritual WISDOM & UNDERSTANDING of His Will for our lives … He will prompt us, prod us & call us to DO HIS WILL.

• We could never grasp the entirety of God’s Will for us … so He FILLS us to the extent of our spiritual understanding.

Step Two: God gives us Wisdom & Understanding of His Will for our lives SO THAT we would then walk out His Will in OBEDIENCE.

• This is where many of us let go … we hear God, feel His nudge, know what He wants us to do … but won’t step out in FAITH to actually do it.

• Hebrews tells us that it is impossible to please God without FAITH … so walking in a manner fully pleading to Him will require FAITH.

• His Will for your life will call you to step out of your own understanding and TRUST HIM more than you trust yourself … He will CONSTANTLY give you more than you can handle in your own!

• When we step out in OBEDIENT FAITH, God PROMISES that these Good Works that He has prepared for us to do WILL bear fruit!

Step Three: God will GROW, STRETCH & INCREASE our knowledge of Him

• God FILLED us to our own capacity in Step One … but when we Trust & Obey Him we GROW in our understanding of Who God is & How God works!

• As we INCREASE in our understanding of Him, God returns us to Step One and FILLS us now to our new capacity of understanding in Him & His Will!

• This will draw us to DEEPER steps of Faith that He calls us to TRUST & OBEY Him in … resulting in more stretching & more filling … on and on and on!

This is how God works His Will in & through us, drawing us into a deeper, more intimate & fulfilling life WITH HIM.

• As He grows our relationship with Him, we will always have Step Two … a choice … will we step out in FAITH FULL OBEDIENCE to follow Him deeper into His Will?

The Christian Life is a journey of Faith into deeper relationship with our Creator Father God.

• God never forces His Relationship on us but gives us the FREEDOM TO CHOOSE Him each and every day.

May you be strengthened with all Power, according to His Glorious Might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father.

Keep choosing Him. Keep following Him. Keep trusting Him!
