4/29/2025 Daily Devotion: True Abundance

John 10:9-10 - “9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

One of my favorite Promises in Scripture is Jesus’ Promise of ABUNDANT LIFE to us!

• Jesus tells us in John 10 that He came SO THAT we could have Life … and have that Life ABUNDANTLY!

• When Jesus says “This is WHY I came.” … we should pay attention!

• The Greek word used for abundantly here is perissos and it means: over and above, more than necessary, exceeding abundantly, supremely, much more than all, superior, extraordinary, surpassing!

But we can get distracted by that word  abundant, can’t we? … We love the idea of More! More! More! … but are we applying this adjective to the right nouns?

• We like abundant wealth

• We like abundant possessions

• We like abundant success

• We like abundant comfort

• We like abundant acceptance

But Jesus did not promise His Abundance to those nouns … He Promises Abundant LIFE.

This LIFE is why Jesus came! The Greek word used here is zoe  … and Jesus talked about zoe A LOT!

• Matthew 7:14: the gate is narrow that leads to zoe

• The rich young ruler asked about acquiring eternal zoe

• John 1:4: in Him was zoe

• John 3:16: God sent Jesus that we may have eternal zoe

• John 6:35: Jesus is the bread of zoe

• John 11:25: Jesus is the resurrection and the zoe

• John 14:6: Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the zoe

But what is this LIFE that Jesus brings to us? Aren’t we already alive?

• Jesus defines His Life for us in John 17:3 as KNOWING GOD.

• Jesus came so that you & I could KNOW GOD and know Him ABUNDANTLY.

Abundant Life is an ABUNDANT RELATIONSHIP with God.

• What is your life seeking today? Abundance or Life?

• Jesus came so that you could KNOW GOD … He is the only Door into this beautiful RELATIONSHIP.

Live your life to KNOW GOD and your Life will be more than abundant!
